¿Qué son los OKR?
Son una metodología de trabajo utilizada para hacer crecer una empresa por medio de objetivos y resultados clave.
- Objetivo (Qué): Lo que la empresa quiere lograr.
- Resultados clave (Cómo): El camino que se seguirá para lograr el objetivo.
Pese a que el concepto ha existido desde mediados de la década de los 1960, ha ganado popularidad en las últimas décadas en el mundo de los negocios gracias a Google.
Los OKR hacen que una empresa se comprometa con las prioridades, trabaje en equipo, sea más responsable, aprendan y crezcan.
Utilizarlos garantizan un mayor enfoque, alineación y ejecución.
Por ello, te compartimos 5 tips para que aprendas de manera fácil y efectiva a usarlos en tu organización:
1. Elige objetivos grandes
Tener una meta más grande de lo habitual, que sea desafiante e inspiradora para los equipos. Son fundamentales en la empresa, ya que permiten que cada colaborador deje volar su imaginación y explore lugares a los que no había llegado antes, a fin de cumplir con resultados extraordinarios.
2. Escribe ‘O’s cualitativos y ‘KR’s cuantitativos
Uno de los errores más comunes que cometen las empresas al escribir OKR es no diferenciar los objetivos de los resultados claves.
Los objetivos deben ser inspiradores, estos reflejan la dirección del equipo u organización. Mientras que los resultados clave permiten saber que ha logrado el objetivo.
Los objetivos deben ser aspiracionales, pero no inalcanzables. Los resultados clave deben ser algo que permita medir el avance.
3. Planea fallar al principio
Si es la primera vez que trabajas con OKR, es normal no hacer todo bien.
No te frustres si fallas en encontrar objetivos importantes o resultados clave correctos, con la práctica lo lograrás. La agilidad demanda tener apertura para el ensayo y error, pues entendemos que parte del proceso de innovación y crecimiento, requiere de exploración y ejecución que mediante fallos nos permitirá alcanzar una aprendizaje validado para ser cada día mejores.
4. No vincules los OKR a las revisiones de desempeño
Si lo haces, tu equipo establecerá objetivos y resultados que saben que pueden alcanzar y no saldrán de su zona de confort. Algo que llamamos el efecto saco de arena, pues se dejarán llevar más por el logro de un resultado accesible, que por el aprendizaje y el esfuerzo por lo extraordinario.
Las revisiones de desempeño deben basarse en lo que una persona hizo. Si no lograron sus OKR no hay problema, siempre y cuando lo compensen con haber hecho buenos aportes y buenos aprendizajes que les permitan resultados más allá de lo habitual.
5. Supervisa el progreso
No establezcas tus OKR para luego olvidarlos. Si realmente quieres que esto funcione debes hacer una revisión regular para determinar el progreso a lo largo del tiempo establecido.
Un gran error es evaluar el éxito solo al final. Para tener éxito es ideal evaluar los resultados clave semanalmente.
Recuerda que NO eres Google
La gran mayoría de personas conoce los OKR gracias a Google, ya que colaboradores del buscador número 1 han compartido a gran detalle cómo los equipos establecen los OKR, con qué frecuencia los miden y supervisan el progreso. Sin embargo, debes recordar que tu empresa no es Google.
Los OKR deben ser de acuerdo a tu organización, ya que no todas las empresas funcionan de la misma manera. Por ejemplo, las empresas de biotecnología trabajan en su mayoría a una escala de tiempo mucho más larga, por lo que sus resultados pueden tardar en verse reflejados en un año completo o más. El proceso para definir los objetivos y los resultados clave dependerá del ritmo de tu organización.

Los OKR de las empresas son necesarios, pero también es fundamental crear OKR personales. Puedes enfocarlo tanto en lo profesional como en lo personal, para así lograr lo que te propongas.
Para ello, debes centrarte en los resultados que quieres lograr. Por ejemplo, no te recomendamos utilizar el lenguaje: “Sé parte del equipo X”, en su lugar, utiliza palabras como: “Realizar un promedio de 1 entrevista por semana”.
