¿Qué es un Product Owner?
El Product Owner se encarga de que el equipo Scrum, aporte valor a la empresa. Se comunica con las personas interesadas en los productos o proyectos que el negocio se encuentra realizando, representando a los stakeholders.
Los requisitos para ser un product owner son tener habilidades comerciales, saber acerca de la experiencia del usuario al usar el producto / servicio y tener habilidades de comunicación, ya que deben comprender las necesidades de los usuarios al ser los responsables de la cartera de productos o backlog.
El día a día del Product Owner
Al trabajar como PO tendrás como principal función comunicarte entre los mundos del equipo de desarrollo y los clientes, para garantizar que haya una comprensión clara de lo que se necesita en el producto o aplicación.
Tu día comenzará con un sprint, donde tendrás una reunión con el equipo de desarrollo para priorizar lo que se necesita hacer en el producto o aplicación en base a los comentarios de usuarios del backlog. En este momento tendrás que responder las preguntas del equipo para aclarar los detalles, así que siempre tendrás que mantenerte comunicado.
Es importante que el equipo sepa qué hacer en cada sprint y que tengan un espacio para dejar sus comentarios y entregas, para así seguir la misma línea.
Las responsabilidades principales de un Product Owner (PO) son:
- Crear valor comercial a través del producto
- Priorizar la acumulación de desarrollo de productos
- Ser la voz del cliente hacia el equipo de desarrollo
- Comunicarse con las partes interesadas
- Construir, mejorar y mantener la cartera de pedidos
- Planificar los sprints con el equipo
- Mantener el flujo de creación de user stories por parte del equipo
- Participar en la revisión de user stories y brindar retroalimentación al equipo
¿Por qué es importante?
El PO (Product Owner) es clave en proyectos ágiles, ya que las necesidades de las personas cambian a una gran velocidad y las empresas deben ser capaces de adaptarse rápidamente a estos cambios. El hecho de que haya una persona encargada de definir una visión clara para el producto es de suma importancia, para así definir a qué tareas darle prioridad y evitar que los proyectos tarden en salir.
Así mismo, es importante que la persona que asuma el rol de Product Owner realice sprints. Los sprints son un espacio en el que el equipo se reúne con el PO para mostrar el avance del producto por medio de un status y darle un feedback sobre su avance al equipo, brindando soluciones de valor agregado por medio de la iteración. Esto se puede lograr por medio de una reunión semanal con el Product Owner.
¿Qué necesito para ser un Product Owner?
Si no dominas alguna de estas áreas no te preocupes, adquiriendo los entrenamientos apropiados podrás acelerar tu curva de aprendizaje. Estos son los requisitos básicos para convertirte en un gran Product Owner:
- Visión de producto: Como Product Owner, es importante que tengas una visión clara y concisa de lo que quieres lograr con tu producto. Debes tener una comprensión sólida de las necesidades de tus usuarios y clientes, y de cómo tu producto puede satisfacer esas necesidades de manera única y efectiva.
- Capacidad para priorizar: En cualquier proyecto de desarrollo de software, siempre hay más cosas que hacer de las que se pueden hacer en un tiempo limitado. Como Product Owner, debes tener la capacidad de priorizar las características y funcionalidades del producto para maximizar el valor que entregas en el menor tiempo posible.
- Comunicación efectiva: El éxito de un proyecto de desarrollo de software depende en gran medida de la comunicación efectiva. Como Product Owner, debes ser capaz de comunicar tus ideas y visión claramente a los desarrolladores, stakeholders y otros miembros del equipo. También debes ser capaz de escuchar y entender las necesidades y preocupaciones de los miembros del equipo y stakeholders.
